Declan Rice makes Paul Scholes admission that Manchester United fans will hate

Manchester United target Declan Rice has revealed he preferred Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard over United great Paul Scholes.

The 22-year-old has been on United's radar for a number of months and earmarked as the principal signing this summer as they look to bolster their midfield.

However, his comments may irk supporters after siding with the former Liverpool skipper over the United great, speaking to Gary Neville for the Overlap.

Rice's admission took the ex-Reds full-back by surprise, he joked: "Ohh, you'll be unpopular with United fans."

Although he opted for Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest of all time, he did reveal that he would let the 36-year-old take a high-pressured winning penalty.

Some fans were quick to point out his apprehension answering United-related questions.

One user wrote: "Hahaha love it when his guests pick Messi over Ronaldo and Gerrard over Scholes. You can see him wince."

Whilst another enjoyed the role of 'Agent Neville': "Agent Neville. Sign him up for United and solve our midfield issues."

A West Ham fan admitted that an exit is nearing for the midfielder, commenting: "Top Lad, shame we are going to lose him, but he is too good for 5th in the EPL."

They face tough competition for the West Ham captain with his price tag in excess of £100m after establishing himself as a key figure of David Moyes' side.

His performance at Old Trafford prior to the winter break had fans raving over the England international urging the Reds to push for the midfielder's signature.
