Declan Rice issues update amid Arsenal injury fears

Arsenal star Declan Rice has broken his silence amid fears he suffered an injury against Chelsea.

The Gunners on Sunday restored their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Blues.

But it was not all good news for Mikel Arteta, who saw Rice forced off during the second half with a fitness concern.

There were also concerns after the full-time whistle over David Raya, with the Gunners boss revealing his goalkeeper had been struggling with “niggles”.

Rice was spotted by TV cameras grimacing and trying to stretch out his legs after racing back to stop a Chelsea counterattack, and was soon after replaced by Christian Norgaard.

Asked for an update on Rice after the game, Arteta said: "I don't know. Declan had to be substituted, so he's going to have to get checked and see if he's available for Wednesday, unfortunately.”

Arsenal fans will have been buoyed to see Rice not mention an injury with his post-match social media post, which read "keep pushing", alongside smiley face and heart emojis.

Arsenal are next in Premier League action on Wednesday away at Brighton, before taking on League One side Mansfield on Saturday in the FA Cup fifth round.

"We're going to have to make changes and give opportunities to everybody to be fresh," Arteta said of the upcoming games.
