Derry City and Strabane District Council have said the health and safety of staff and the general public is their first priority when asked if the start of the Illimunate Festival could be delayed over recent weather warnings.
MyDerry asked the council if contingency plans had been put in place after the Met Office issued an amber warning for Northern Ireland on Wednesday and Thursday.
Meanwhile, the amber warning for February 17 has since been reduced to a yellow warning for wind.
It comes as parts of the UK braces themselves to be hit by winds up to 70mph.
On Thursday, it's expected the historic Walled City of Derry will come to life through a magical mix of lights, colour and sound for 'Illuminate'.
The highly-anticipated festival will run over two weekends, 17th - 20th and 24th – 27th February, from 6pm - 9pm.
The festival will also capture some of the most dramatic moments in Derry's history through digital animation, projection and live performance, complemented by a series of intimate live music gigs featuring some of the very best musicians.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the council said: "Weather conditions are always a key consideration in all our event planning.
"We will continue to consult with our event partners and statutory agencies around any decision to cancel or postpone the Illuminate event.
"The health and safety of staff and the general public are our first priority and we will respond as needed to any concerns about potential weather impacts should the situation demand it, closer to the time."
