BBC broadcaster Deborah James has been gifted a damehood by the Queen, just days after she revealed the tragic news that she was "saying goodbye" after a five-year battle with bowel cancer.
The 40-year-old cancer campaigner has been given the great honour after raising millions of pounds for research into the disease, and capturing the hearts of the nation.
A statement was issued by Downing Street on Thursday, as reported by the Daily Record, confirming: "The Queen has been pleased to approve that the honour of Damehood be conferred upon Deborah James."
