The Lebanese Red Cross has reported that the death toll from an Israeli strike on the northern Lebanese village of Aitou has tragically risen from nine to 19. Additionally, nine more individuals have been injured as a result of the strike.
According to Alexy Nehme, the emergency medical services director of the Lebanese Red Cross, rescue teams are diligently working to clear the rubble in Aitou, with fears that more individuals may still be trapped beneath the debris.
The strike, which occurred on Monday, decimated an entire building that was sheltering people who had fled the bombardment in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Red Cross has been actively involved in the rescue efforts to locate and assist any survivors.
Efforts to reach out to the Israel Defense Forces for comment on the strike are currently underway to gather more information and insights into the incident.
Aitou, located approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) north of Beirut, is situated in the Zgharta District of northern Lebanon. The village is known for its predominantly Christian population, adding to the complexity and sensitivity of the situation.
