Death toll from COVID-19 reaches nine in Prince Edward Island

CHARLOTTETOWN — Prince Edward Island is reporting one more COVID-19 death, for a total of nine since the start of the pandemic.

Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison says a person in their 80s is the latest resident to die of the disease.

There are 10 patients in hospital, including two people in intensive care.

There are two other patients in hospital who have contracted the disease but who are being treated for illnesses other than COVID-19.

Health officials reported 275 new infections and 303 more recoveries on Tuesday.

There are 2,394 active reported cases on the Island, with outbreaks in six long-term facilities.
