A death row killer used his final statement to apologise to his victim's loved ones and told the warden, ''I am ready to go'' before receiving the lethal injection. John Henry Ramirez, 38, was executed at Texas State's death chamber in Huntsville on October 5 for the murder of Pablo Castro, 46 in Corpus Christi 2004.
Ramirez brutally killed the father -of-nine who was working night shifts at a convenience store in the Southern Texas city after the brave supermarket employee refused to give him drug money. He was sentenced to death in 2008 after he stabbed Pablo 29 times and took off with $1.25 (£1.10) on July, 19, 2004, the Daily Star reports.
Ramirez was pronounced dead at 6:40pm and used to his last words to address Pablo's wife and four children who came to witness his death. He said: “I just want to say to the family of Pablo Castro, I appreciate everything that y’all did to try and communicate with me through the Victim’s Advocacy program.
“I tried to reply back, there is nothing that I could have said or done that would have helped you. I have regret and remorse, this is such a heinous act.
''I hope this finds you comfort, if this helps you then I am glad. I hope in some shape or form this helps you find closure.
“To my wife, my friends, my son, grasshopper, Dana and homies, I love y’all. Just know that I fought a good fight, and I am ready to go.
“I am ready, warden.” Following a Supreme Court ruling, a Christian pastor was allowed to be present and lay his hands on Ramirez while praying.
