The Governor of US state of Oregon has stepped in to commute the death sentences of all 17 inmates awaiting execution on death row.
Describing capital punishment as "immoral" she has changed their punishment to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Democrat Governor Kate Brown, who only has a month remaining in office, used her executive clemency powers to commute the original sentences.
