An inquiry will be held into the death of a man while in the custody of Glasgow police officers.
The circumstances surrounding the death of Darryl Goodwin will be investigate when a Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) gets underway this summer. He passed away after being taken into police custody on Govan Road in June 2021.
And now the Crown Office has announced details of a preliminary hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court to take place on June 5, just shy of the second anniversary of Darryl's death.

In a statement issued today, procurator fiscal Katrina Parkes, who is head of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscals Service (COPFS) Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit, explained: "The Lord Advocate considers that the death of Darryl Goodwin occurred while in legal custody and as such a Fatal Accident Inquiry is mandatory.
“The lodging of the First Notice enables FAI proceedings to commence under the direction of the sheriff.
“The family and their legal representatives will continue to be kept informed of significant developments as court proceedings progress.”
FAIs are required in Scotland when someone dies in legal custody and they serve to find out if reasonable precautions could have been taken to prevent the death, and, where necessary, they make recommendations to minimise the risk of the same thing happening again.
