Death of elderly prisoner at HMP Low Moss to be probed by inquiry

An elderly prisoner has died at HMP Low Moss on the outskirts of Bishopbriggs.

Gerard Hooks, 76, passed away within the prison on April 20, The Scottish Prison Service have confirmed.

He was convicted at Falkirk Sheriff Court in 2021.

The Scottish Prison Service say that Police Scotland have been made aware of the death and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

As is the case with any death in prison, a Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed the news via a statement on their website, which reads: "Gerard Hooks, 76, a prisoner from HMP Low Moss has died on 30 April 2022. He was convicted at Falkirk Sheriff Court in 2021.

"Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
