Dean Smith provides Norwich City injury update with familiar face a doubt ahead of Leeds United

Norwich City boss Dean Smith has revealed that he will make a late call on the fitness of Sam Byram ahead of this weekend's trip to Leeds United.

The Canaries suffered their third successive defeat against Chelsea on Thursday night, as goals from Trevor Chalobah, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz sealed all three points at Carrow Road.

Meanwhile, Leeds were beaten 3-0 by Aston Villa in midweek to stretch their winless run to eight matches. The result leaves the Whites in 16th, just two points above the relegation zone.

It is going to be a pivotal game towards the bottom of the division and Smith has provided an update on the fitness of his squad, with Sam Bryam to be assessed for the game.

He said: "It’s looking okay. Sam I’m going to have a look at tomorrow morning to assess if he’s okay. He is a little bit fatigued.

"I am hopeful he will be okay. All the lads that played last night's game, came through it. We should have them available for Sunday."

Mathias Normann and Christoph Zimmermann were both replaced at half-time, but Smith has explained it was a tactical decision rather than a fitness problem.

Republic of Ireland internationals Andrew Omobamidele and Adam Idah remain the only long-term injury absentees with back and knee issues.

"We’re pretty much doing a recovery session today for the lads who played," Smith added. "The lads who didn’t are doing a training session and then they’ll come in tomorrow.

"We’ll have a meeting, I’ll name the team, we’ll train and then we’ll travel up tomorrow afternoon."
