Norwich City manager Dean Smith has slammed the Premier League for deciding to reschedule their game against Chelsea within three days of facing Leeds United.
The Canaries are set to face the European champions on Thursday night at Carrow Road, before travelling to Leeds United on Sunday - leaving less than 72 hours between the two matches.
This is the same for the Whites, however, who take on Aston Villa in midweek after the initial fixture was postponed in December due to a Covid-19 outbreak. Newcastle United, Southampton, Aston Villa, Wolves, Watford and Chelsea also face quick turnarounds.
But Smith has questioned why the league couldn't schedule their clash with Thomas Tuchel's side to Wednesday instead which would've gave them an extra day to prepare for the match.
He told Norfolk Live: "It certainly did today. I must admit we could go and play Chelsea here on Wednesday and have two days coaching before that but the Premier League have decided to put that on Thursday so we’ll get hardly any coaching to go into the Leeds game who are only six points ahead of us.
"You have to deal with the hand that you are dealt and we are doing that. We will keep working hard and hopefully we can turn around some results and have a bit of luck ourselves."
This comes after the Canaries missed a massive opportunity to gain some ground on the teams above them in the relegation battle. Smith's side suffered a 3-0 defeat against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
Ivan Toney's hat-trick helped the Bees to their first away win of 2022, leaving Norwich rock bottom ahead of facing Chelsea and Leeds before the March international break.
