Dublin GAA legends Dean Rock and Niamh McEvoy have announced the birth of their first child - a girl named Sadie.

Dean and Niamh have been engaged since last year and own a coffeeshop in Garristown together, called 'Fancy That'.

A host of Dean's longtime inter-county teammates passed on their hearty congratulations including Paul Flynn, Paddy Andrews and Cian O'Sullivan.

While Dublin LGFA sent on their best to four-time All-Ireland winner Niamh.

The weekend just gone was a bumper one for ladies football as over 46,000 spectators took in a triple-header of finals at Croke Park.

In the opening fixture, there was late drama in the junior showpiece as Antrim and Fermanagh finished level so will have to meet again.

Then there was the meeting of Laois and Wexford in the intermediate decider which Laois ended up squeaking by 1-13 to 1-11.

Lastly, the senior final also proved a close enough affair until Meath pulled away in the closing stages to retain their crown by 3-10 to 1-7.

Afterwards, an emotional Eamonn Murray hailed his panel whom he called a 'very special bunch' having now emerged as the premier team in senior football after only gaining promotion with their intermediate success in 2020.

He said: “Kerry haven’t been held to 1-7 for a long, long time. We got the goals and that’s our highest score in a long, long time.

“They’re a very special bunch. It takes a very special bunch to do that, to put two-in-a-row. We started the year off quietly, won the league without playing well. Started the championship then and we were getting better and better. We kept the best until last again.

“We weren’t that worried during the week. It’s strange times to be a Meath footballer manager. It can only help for the future. That crowd we had there was amazing. It’s worthwhile doing it for them alone.”
