Dean Lewis Drops New Track After Parting Ways With Universal Music Amid Allegations

Dean Lewis has officially returned to music weeks after he was dropped by Universal Music Group amidst allegations of inappropriate behaviour from multiple women, to which he has apologised via a seven-page Instagram post.

On Sunday, Lewis shared a 1.5 minute TikTok video announcing the release of his new track “I Am Getting Well”, inspired by his recent life experiences.

“The last few months have been the worst of my life,” Lewis began.

“I went into a rehab facility trying to figure out where I was the last nine years. So much pressure and losing myself, not being able to see it and understand why I felt the way I was — constantly trying to escape myself.

“I learned to feel good about myself by my achievements or external things around me, and had no ability to validate myself internally. And with that, I was escaping a lot, numbing myself out. I made a lot of mistakes. I own them.”

Lewis said rehab sparked a rethink of his artistic purpose, sharing, “What if I wrote songs for people that have fallen off the track”, and for people who think “life is over and you can’t have a second chance to know that you can get back on track, you can get better”.

“So I wrote this song. It’s called ‘I Am Getting Well.’ I actually wrote it about eight months ago. And to me, it’s just answering some of the questions that I’ve had for myself,” he continued.

“I spent the last eight years isolating myself, even though I had all these people around me— finishing a show, racing back to my room, unable to deal with myself and the pressure of everything and learning how important community is not isolating.”

Lewis added that the new track was “from the deepest parts” of him before thanking fans who stuck around.

“I’m finally finding happiness in small things,” he said.

“I Am Getting Well” is Lewis’ first track since parting ways with Universal Music Australia after ten years of partnership.

The major music label confirmed the split to Rolling Stone AU/NZ earlier this month, with a separate statement from Lewis confirming that he’d been dropped.

“We can confirm that Dean Lewis is no longer signed to Universal Music Australia or any Universal Music Group label,” a Universal Music Australia spokesperson told the publication.

Alongside the announcement of the split, a spokesperson for the musician said Lewis had no plans to engage with other music labels and would continue his career as an independent artist.

During the first show of the US leg of his tour, Lewis opened up about his struggles and revealed he’d sought treatment at an inpatient facility. It was also the first time he played “I Am Getting Well” live.

“I haven’t really talked about this, but the last three months of my life have pretty much been the worst of my life,” he said on stage, according to The Daily Telegraph.

“I went into a rehab intensive therapy thing for three weeks … [I] made a lot of mistakes and I own them and learned a lot in this place.”

Last year, Lewis was embroiled in controversy after multiple screenshots of him allegedly flirting and having private chats with adult fans over the years surfaced on social media, which saw his ARIA and TikTok award nominations withdrawn.

In October 2025, Lewis shared a seven-slide Instagram apology in which he revealed he planned to take “intense therapy” and take responsibility for his actions. However, he denied that anything happened without consent.

PEDESTRIAN.TV published an independent investigation into the allegations against Lewis and spoke with multiple women about their experiences with the musician.
