Nottingham Forest keeper Dean Henderson has been named in Gareth Southgate’s 28-man England squad for the National League clashes against Italy and Germany.
The on-loan shot-stopper will battle it out with Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope for the number one spot, with Jordan Pickford out injured.
With the World Cup on the horizon, the call-up justifies the 25-year-old’s decision to move away from Old Trafford in search of first-team minutes.

However, the reaction to his selection among Manchester United fans has been mixed.
Here’s what they have been saying about the Reds stopper on social media platform Twitter:
@Legend_Kudus: Good to see Dean Henderson back into the squad.
As a MUFC fan I won't blame Southgate for not picking Rashford and Sancho.
@ijohnson_98: Three #mufc players selected by Southgate for England’s upcoming games - none of them are in Erik ten Hag’s first XI
Henderson - on loan at Forest
Maguire - benched by ETH
Shaw - lost place to Malacia
@vihendaMUFC: All happy for Henderson.
@DevilsNeverCr11: I don’t like Henderson but at least he’s playing and playing decent for Forest.
@uTDdEFENCE: All said and done, Henderson got what he wanted. He wanted his place in the England team and he played his way into it. Put his money where his mouth is. Got to respect a player that can back up the talk off the field with performance on it. It was a deserved call-up.
@Varane_LUHG: Harry Maguire and Dean Henderson getting England call-ups when they’ve been playing as bad as they have says it all about that pathetic England manager.
@UtdConor02: Henderson gets called up after conceding the most goals in Europe.
