Dean Henderson can fulfil dream after Man Utd transfer to Nottingham Forest

Dean Henderson could earn a recall to the England squad ahead of the September internationals following Jordan Pickford's recent injury blow.

The Everton goalkeeper suffered a thigh injury in the draw against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last month, but he was still able to put in a man of the match performance in the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park. The Toffees have since released a statement saying that Pickford will be out of action until after England's next set of fixtures.

The statement reads: "Jordan Pickford suffered a thigh injury against Liverpool. The England international has undergone medical investigations this week and is not expected to return to action until after the next international break."

England face Italy and Germany later this month in the UEFA Nations League as Gareth Southgate's side gear up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale and Newcastle's Nick Pope have both been impressive this season for their respective clubs and could replace Pickford in the England squad, while Henderson will also no doubt be on Southgate's radar as he plays more regular minutes at Forest having left Man Utd on loan.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer told Sky Sports News that he Henderson could force his way into Southgate's plans ahead of the World Cup in November. He said: "Absolutely. There’s no reason why he [Henderson] can’t. I think it all comes down to the performances throughout the season. He’ll be judged between now and the time when they decide to select that squad going into the World Cup.

"Obviously he’s a little bit behind the eight ball as these guys [Pickford and Ramsdale] have been around for a bit longer, playing regularly. So he’s got to play a little bit of catch up, but all he can do is focus on his own performances week in week out."
