Deal 'hijacked', Ipswich eye £1m move, Derby County chase striker – League One transfer rumours

While Bristol Rovers are pleased with their transfer business so far, Derby County are quickly becoming the headline story of the League One transfer market this summer.

Freed from the woes of administration, the Rams are spending big with a slew of deals signed off in quick succession as the new campaign edges ever closer.

The Gas, meanwhile, have completed a quartet of deals so far this summer with Jordan Rossiter, James Gibbons, James Connolly and John Marquis moving to the Mem. Joey Barton is satisfied by the business so far, but wants more additions in the coming weeks.

Rovers' rivals are busy, too, with the market in full swing. Here is a roundup of the latest transfer headlines from across League One...

Forest Green's move for striker 'hijacked'

Forest Green Rovers showed the creativity of their recruitment by appearing to secure a deal for Canadian prospect Aribim Pepple, however, reports suggest the deal has been 'hijacked' by Championship club Luton Town.

Pepple, 19, was born in England but moved to Canada as a child. He has scored six goals in seven games for Canadian Premier League side Cavalry FC this season following a spell in Getafe's youth setup.

His form alerted sides in the EFL and Forest Green were believed to have sewn up a deal after starting talks before the end of last season, but Football Insider reports the Hatters have stolen in at the last minute to take the striker to Kenilworth Road, with advanced talks ongoing.

Ipswich to make £1m signing from Leeds United

Spending seven figures in League One is a significant outlay and Ipswich Town are reportedly set to do just that, according to the Daily Mail.

The Tractor Boys are reportedly keen to spend £1million to secure the signing of Leeds United defender Leif Davis. The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Bournemouth as they won promotion from the Championship, making 15 appearances.

Davis, who can play at left-back and centre-back, is now a target for Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna. The Suffolk side are desperate to secure a return to the Championship after three seasons in League One, missing the play-offs each year.

Derby chase striker after triple deal

With the club lifted out of administration, Derby are making up for lost time after giving their League One rivals a head start in the transfer market.

On Wednesday, they announced deals had been completed for Conor Hourihane, James Chester and David McGoldrick and new boss Liam Rosenior is far from done.

John Percy of The Telegraph reports Derby are "hopeful" of signing Cardiff City striker James Collins, who will be allowed to leave on a free this summer. The 31-year-old has struggled at Cardiff, but scored 72 goals in 183 games for Luton town.

The News reports Portsmouth are also interested, but Derby appear to be favourites to sign Collins.

Barnsley win race for wing-back

Nicky Cadden was one of the stars of Forest Green's League Two title-winning campaign last season, with his pace and delivery on the left flank a major weapon for the Nailsworth side.

But just like his wing-back partner Kane Wilson, Cadden is set to leave The New Lawn. Alan Nixon reports Barnsley are closing in on a deal for the Scotsman, who reportedly had offers from several League One clubs.

Cadden, 25, is out of contract at Forest Green after mustering six goals and 13 assists in League Two last season.
