Deadpool breaks Marvel Rivals class system as the first triple-role hero

Deadpool’s role in Marvel Rivals has been a big question since his announcement last year, with devs changing the role inside the game every couple of weeks. With the latest reveal, the class mystery has been solved, and Deadpool is… well, all of them.

In a Dev Vision Vol. 13, NetEase (and Wade Wilson himself) revealed Deadpool as the first triple-role hero in Marvel Rivals. In the gameplay preview, Deadpool appears as a hero in every category, with abilities varying depending on the role you pick him in. Keep in mind, even though he appears in all three categories, there can only be one Deadpool per team.

He wields dual swords and dual pistols for both ranged and melee damage. In the Vanguard version, Deadpool gets a unicorn plushie that gives out shields, and in the Strategist version, his weapons can heal allies. Regardless of how you play him, as the game goes on, Deadpool will level up, allowing you to upgrade his skills using a skill book.

Deadpool’s Ultimate charges faster depending on how fancy you fight, and while we don’t know what exactly counts as “fancy,” it could be using a combination of skills while landing hits or KOs. The Ultimate is called Pop Quiz! and issues a challenge, the results of which grant Deadpool a buff, depending on the role he’s in. The exact abilities and how they work are still unknown, so you can expect to learn more as we get closer to the release.

A new convoy map, Museum of Contemplation, and The Clobberin’ Club area for Times Square is coming to Marvel Rivals a bit later, on Jan. 29. Times Square is also getting a dedicated photo mode for you to capture your favorite heroes.

On the balancing front, the developer is addressing the solo strength of some Strategists, including Gambit and Invisible Woman, as well as heroes in other roles, like Angela and Daredevil. At the same time, Captain America, Hulk, Doctor Strange, Blade, Iron Fist, and Namor are getting buffed.

All that, alongside new and updated Team-Up abilities, revamped proficiency system, championship updates, new accessories, and more, is coming to Marvel Rivals with Season 6, launching on Jan. 16. With Marvel Zombies leaving the game, the developer also hinted at a new PvE mode in the first half of 2026.
