Deadly Tesla mystery after car smashes into cafe patio and kills 79-year-old woman

  • A 79-year-old woman was killed and five people were injured when a Tesla crashed into an Urbane Cafe patio in Simi Valley, Southern California, on Monday afternoon.
  • The white Tesla, driven by a 64-year-old woman, veered onto the sidewalk while attempting a right turn, striking the elderly pedestrian and cafe furniture.
  • Emergency responders found the victim trapped under the vehicle; she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a juvenile occupant sustained injuries requiring hospital transport, while three other juveniles in the car had minor injuries.
  • Investigators are probing whether mechanical failure, driver impairment, or speed caused the crash, but do not believe it was deliberate, and drugs or alcohol are not suspected.
  • This incident follows another recent fatal Tesla crash in Texas where a driver claimed the car was on "autopilot" when it struck a home, killing a 76-year-old woman.
