On Thursday, a tragic incident unfolded in northern Israel as projectiles launched from Lebanon claimed the lives of five individuals, including four foreign workers. This attack marks the deadliest assault since Israeli forces entered Lebanon earlier this month to combat the Hezbollah militant group.
Hezbollah, a known adversary of Israel, has been engaging in a sustained campaign of launching rockets, missiles, and drones into northern Israel for over a year. In response, Israel has carried out retaliatory strikes against Hezbollah targets. The toll of this ongoing conflict is stark, with a total of sixty-eight individuals losing their lives in rocket attacks on northern Israel since the commencement of hostilities last year.
The devastating attack was reported by the Metula regional council, situated in Israel's northernmost town. Metula, which finds itself surrounded by Lebanon on three sides, has borne the brunt of rocket attacks, resulting in significant damage to the town. The situation has become so dire that the residents of Metula were compelled to evacuate in October 2023, leaving behind only security personnel and agricultural workers.
