On New Year's Day, a horrifying incident unfolded in the vibrant French Quarter district of New Orleans. A pickup truck careened through a crowd of pedestrians on the iconic Bourbon Street, resulting in the tragic loss of 10 lives and leaving 30 others injured.

What Happened?

The devastating attack took place around 3:15 a.m. as revelers had gathered to ring in the New Year. The driver of the pickup truck deliberately sped through the crowd, causing chaos and destruction in his wake. The victims were swiftly transported to five local hospitals for urgent medical attention.

Police Insights

According to Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick, the driver exhibited a clear intent to inflict harm and devastation. Describing the driver as 'hell-bent on creating carnage,' Kirkpatrick revealed that the individual aimed to target as many people as possible. In the aftermath of the attack, two police officers were shot by the assailant but are currently in stable condition.
