If you're hoping to play Dead Island 2 on release, here's everything you need to know about release time, preload and what platforms it's on.
The highly anticipated Dead Island 2 is finally releasing tomorrow Friday, April 21, 2023, and after receiving a glowing review and a fantastic preview from the Mirror Gaming team, this game looks like it could be worth the very long wait. The title will have different release times across the globe, but you can preload it, so you can jump right in when it's released, wherever you are!
The hack-and-slash style zombie fighting sequel has been in the works for over a decade now, and after being moved from studio to studio and having the release date delayed multiple times, it's finally actually coming out. You'll be able to pick it up on both last-gen and current-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles and PC.
Mirror Gaming is streaming a Dead Island 2 playthrough LIVE on YouTube before the game is released. Get involved here.
Dead Island 2 release time
For players in Europe, Asia and Australia, the game will release at 12am (midnight) on Friday, April 21, 2023, in local time zones. This means that players in New Zealand and Australia will have access to the game hours, if not close to an entire day, before others around the world due to time zone differences.
For those in North America, the game will drop on Friday, April 21 12am EDT and then Thursday, April 20 9pm PDT / 10pm MT / 11pm CT. Again due to time zone differences, some North American players will have access to the game a day before the official release in Europe.
Dead Island 2 platforms and specification requirements
The title will be released on both last-gen and current-gen consoles, meaning those who are yet to upgrade are in luck. You're able to pick up the game on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4 and PS5.
Those on PC will need a rig that meets the minimum specifications, which are relatively high if I do say so myself. The minimum processor required is AMD FX-9590 / Intel Core i7-7700HQ and the minimum graphics needed are Radeon RX 6800 XT (16384 VRAM) / GeForce RTX 2070 Suer (8192 MB).
Dead Island 2 preload time and file size
Players who have pre-ordered the game are able to preload it onto their consoles, so they're able to play as soon as it goes live. Xbox players are able to preload from April 3, 2023 and PlayStation players from April 19, 2023, meaning that both are available right now.
Unfortunately, preloading isn't an option for PC players, meaning you'll have have to wait for the game to install after it is released before being able to get stuck in.
Here are the confirmed file sizes for all platforms that the game is available on:
- PlayStation 4: 19GB
- PlayStation 5: 48GB
- Xbox One: 26GB
- Xbox Series X|S: 54GB
- PC: 70GB
Dead Island 2 will be available worldwide tomorrow Friday, April 21, 2023 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
