Manchester United have been drawn against Barcelona in the Europa League play-off round, with fans dubbing the tie the 'Frenkie de Jong derby'.
Erik ten Hag's side failed to beat Real Sociedad by the required two-goal margin that would have seen them become group winners in their last Europa League match. United now have to take part in a two-legged play-off in February to progress to the round of 16.
The Reds knew they were going to come up against one of the eight clubs that finished third in their Champions League group, with their next opponents now being confirmed. United will have to beat Barcelona over two legs if Ten Hag is to emulate the club's success in 2017.

Fans will of course remember the Champions League finals back in 2009 and 2011 in which they were beaten by Pep Guardiola's side. More recently, United were knocked out of the Champions League in 2019 by the La Liga club, following their superb comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round.
United will of course be looking for revenge, as tensions between the two clubs were once again brought into the spotlight over the potential transfer of De Jong. Although a move failed to materialise, the 25-year-old will shortly be making the trip to Manchester regardless.
United supporters took to social media following the draw, as they saw the irony in finding themselves up against Barcelona in the next round of the competition.
