De-clutter for a good cause

After a three-year hiatus, the popular "Clutter Sale" is back for another shopping extravaganza, at the Grand Ballroom of Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, Ratchadamri Road, on Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

Organised by The NewsMakers, a group of media veterans, PR and communications professionals as well as celebrities and socialites, this fun one-day event gives new life to unused belongings while raising funds for charity.

For those with unused clothes, bags, fashion accessories, kitchenware, decorative items, toys, books and the like, this annual sale is an opportunity to de-clutter for cash and a cause -- and have a great time doing it.

Previous "Clutter Sale" events attracted hundreds of bargain hunters on the lookout for treasures, including premium branded items.

For this year's 14th edition, few will walk away without finding something to take home from the sale's 70-plus tables, in addition to a special Designer Corner filled with luxury brands at bargain prices and Charity Corner offering donated items at rock-bottom prices. Also awaiting shoppers is a raffle with participants having a one-in-four chance to win amazing prizes for a donation of only 50 baht each.

Prospective vendors at the event are requested to book their tables early, as bookings are on a first-come, first-served basis. Vendors with personal clutter are required to make a donation of 2,500 baht per table, while semi-business vendors' donation per table is 3,500 baht.

Among the first flea markets for charity in Bangkok, since 2006 the Clutter Sale has helped raise more than 8 million baht for cancer research. This year's beneficiary is Chulalongkorn Hospital's Genetic Cancer Research Centre under the auspices of the Thai Red Cross.
