Day 2 of Lidl inflation buster shopping challenge includes tasty lunch - but there is one problem

This week we are putting the Lidl "inflation buster" shopping menu to the test, but day two has already seen a challenge.

The "inflation buster" shopping list claims to "feed a family of four for just under €80".

However, we are only two days in and have already run low on two major items.

Find out how day one went of our Lidl shopping challenge here.

You can read the full shopping list here.

Every day for seven days we are trying out the Lidl menu and reporting back on whether or not the "inflation buster" shop really can feed a family for a week.

We hope to reduce our weekly food bill from €150 to €80, however on day two it looks like we already need to dash to the shops.

Here is today's menu:

  • Breakfast - Special Flakes and an orange
  • Lunch - Goujon wraps
  • Dinner - Spanish omelette

For day two breakfast was a bit of a rush, so we had a bowl of Special Flakes and an orange before work. Corn Flakes is on the Lidl shopping list but we swapped it out.

We were pretty hungry by lunch so we decided to have a nice filling wrap.

For lunch we made goujon wraps which included two chicken goujons, lettuce, cheese, mayo, tomatoes all folded inside a wrap.

The toasted wrap was really filling and pretty tasty so lunch today was a winner.

That evening we had a Spanish omelette for dinner. We par-boiled the potatoes, chopped them up and added to the frying pan with one onion. Next we added four eggs and cooked the omelette on a low temperature before serving with salad and bread.

We had nut bars, yogurt, tea and coffee through-out the day.

However, after day two we are already running low on milk and bread.

We'll see how far the rest of the food shop stretches for the week. Come back tomorrow to follow us on our journey.
