Dawid Malan believes he has broken out of a "pigeonhole" to force his way into England's World Cup plans, as the tourists seek to wrap up a series win in Bangladesh tomorrow.
Malan hit a match-winning century in yesterday's first of three ODIs in Dhaka, finishing unbeaten on 114 as no team-mate passed 30 in a successful chase of 210 on a slow wicket.
Despite being around the international set-up since 2017, the 35-year-old has made just 16 ODI appearances. However, Malan now has four tons in his short career in the format.
“It’s nice to get the opportunity,” Malan said. “I’ve been carrying the drinks since 2017. A lot of other guys have been given opportunities because of their age. But as soon as you have a new coach and captain it gives you an opportunity and [Matthew Mott] listens.
“I told him not to pigeonhole me as a certain type of player. If you need me to be at number five I can play it like a T20, if you need me to open I can do that. Just tell me the role you want me to play.”
