Davina McCall shares the ‘intimate’ daily habit that keeps her marriage ‘connected’

Davina McCall and Michael Douglas attend the Lady Garden Foundation's Silent No More Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Davina McCall has been with her celebrity hairstylist husband Michael Douglas since 2019.

The couple married in December 2025 in a small ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall, and recently had a second celebration in July at their home in Kent.

Now, Davina has opened up about the daily habit she swears by to maintain intimacy and connection within their marriage - and it might surprise you.

In conversation with Closer magazine, Davina shares, "I have a bath with Michael every day if we are together."

She continues, "It's such a brilliant way to catch up and it's intimate and fun. Sitting opposite each other, you're both naked, so you're vulnerable and really open."

Continuing to explain just how much bathing together helps keep their marriage alive, the presenter reveals, "You're looking into each other's eyes - it's such an intimate way to unpick your day."

She calls this daily ritual "actually really lovely," suggesting that "it always makes me feel connected."

Davina has also opened up about how her husband supported her to let out her anger when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in November last year.

Speaking to Anita Rani on her Sisters of Defiance podcast, Davina said, "When I got breast cancer, I was really angry."

She adds, "And Michael sat me down, and said, 'It's alright if you're angry.'" Trying to deny to herself that she was angry, the presenter told herself that the universe must be trying to teach her a lesson, to rationalise what was happening to her and give it a "positive spin."

Michael responded to that with, "But if you were angry, it would be fine." Davina then acknowledged to herself and her husband how furious she was, and she recalls that Michael started "gathering cushions and pillows."

After setting up a space to allow her to vent, Michael watched as Davina was "screaming" and "punching."

This reaction surprised her because "I never allow myself to be angry." She shares, "It's the one emotion that I say to myself, 'It is not OK to be angry.'"

However, while she unleashed her rage, she listed all the reasons she was angry to Michael. Afterwards, she had a "wow" moment that she'd allowed herself to feel an emotion normally off limits.

He then responded with the most comforting words, telling Davina, "Thank you. I just thought you were upset that you were sick again, but I didn't understand all the reasons - so thank you for telling me that."

He followed that with a simple, yet equally supportive, "well done."

Clearly the pair prioritise communication within their relationship and appear to be very much in love. Thinking about the future, the couple are now hoping to slow down and spend more time together.

Michael shares, "We've got five years of hard work left in us. Then I think it's time for us to relax and enjoy all of that hard work."
