Update: On March 11, the Court of Criminal Appeals stayed David Wood’s execution. The court has not yet announced whether it will send the case back to the trial court to review the evidence of Wood’s innocence.
Greg Wiercioch, one of Wood’s attorneys, told Wood in person about the stay this afternoon. He said Wood’s family members who were visiting started crying. “David was speechless for just a few seconds there,” Wiercioch told the Observer.
Young women had been disappearing from the streets of El Paso for months before the first bodies were discovered in the desert northeast of the city.
