NEW DELHI: Australia opener David Warner has been ruled out of the ongoing second Test against India at the Koltla after suffering a concussion when he was struck in the head while batting on Day 1.
Matt Renshaw has been brought into the Australia team as a concussion substitute.
Australia, who suffered a heavy defeat in the opening Test in Nagpur, were dismissed for 263 in their first innings in the 2nd Test on Friday.
Warner faced a bouncer barrage from Mohammed Siraj and was hit twice - once on his arm and then on his helmet - needing medical assistance.
The left-hander scored 15 before Mohammed Shami dismissed him caught behind to end his struggles after a harrowing day.
"Warner will now follow the graduated return to sport protocols ahead of the third Test in Indore in line with Cricket Australia guidelines," a Cricket Australia statement said.
After the end of play on the opening day fellow opener Usman Khawaja had said warner was "a little bit weary".
"A knock to the arm and then to the head has made him a little bit weary at the moment," Khawaja had said.
