A first-look image has been released of the Gangsta Granny sequel showing star Sheridan Smith alongside Britain's Got Talent judge David Walliams. The glimpse at the TV adaptation of Walliams’ children’s book Gangsta Granny Strikes Again! was shared by the BBC.
The picture, taken on location in north London, showed Sheridan and David sitting alongside Jojo Rabbit actor Archie Yates, who will star as Ben. Also joining the cast are Inside No 9 actor Kevin Bishop, Paddington 2’s Maggie Steed, Harish Patel and Griff Rhys Jones.
David Walliams will once again star as Ben's dad Mike and can be seen in the photo sporting a blonde hairstyle and wearing a velvet jacket and open pink shirt. Meanwhile, Sheridan is wearing a pink dress and fur-lined coat and will play Ben's mum Linda - a role played by Miranda Hart in 2013’s Gangsta Granny adaption.
The first Gangsta Granny book tells the story of a grandmother operating secretly as an international jewel thief known as the Black Cat. A synopsis shared by the BBC of the sequel reads: "An adaptation of the hugely popular 2021 children’s book written by David Walliams, Gangsta Granny Strikes Again! follows Ben as he is stunned to learn of another spate of thefts - with all the clues pointing to The Black Cat, better known to Ben as Granny!"
David and Sheridan both shared the news on their social media accounts today, posting pictures on set wearing Christmas headwear. David wrote: "GANGSTA GRANNY STRIKES AGAIN! is coming to @BBCOne @CBBC & @BBCiPlayer this Christmas starring @Sheridansmith1 Maggie Steed, Harish Patel, Griff Rhys Jones, Kevin Bishop & Archie Yates."
A date for the sequel is yet to be confirmed but the cast have teased it's coming this Christmas to BBC One, CBBC and BBC iPlayer.
