David Seaman puzzled by Manchester United after Southampton draw

David Seaman has been left puzzled by Manchester United after they slipped to a draw at home to Southampton on Saturday.

United had taken the lead through Jadon Sancho in the first half but a Che Adams strike following the break ensured that the points were shared.

It was a familiar sinking feeling for the Red Devils who were pegged back shortly after the break at Burnley in midweek leading to a draw.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Seaman was less than impressed with Ralf Rangnick's side when looking back at the result on Sunday morning.

He told Sky Sports News: "I think they lacked a bit of confidence.

"First of all you see the team sheet and you think that this is a strong Man United team and when they start you think: 'Yeah this is going to go Man United's way'.

"But there is just a lack of confidence because it is not like they are creating a lack of chances.

"You have got to be thinking that someone soon will get a thumping from United because they are creating chances."

A common thread in recent matches has been United's inability to hold on to a lead.

In their last three matches Rangnick's men have been unable to stay in front.

"What is happening here is that players are being pulled out of position," Seaman said while explaining United's unwillingness to keep a victory.

"They know that once they have scored that is not the end of the game whereas we (his Arsenal side) knew that it was 90 per cent likely to be the end of the game. We could defend a lead.

"At the moment it just looks like United can't.

"I find it hard to understand why because they have got the players but they are not firing on all cylinders."

Many questions have been asked regarding whether the squad is listening to Rangnick during training sessions.

MEN Sport has revealed that the players are thought to want Mauricio Pochettino taking over the club at the end of the season.

Seaman said, despite this, he hoped the team was still listening to the German coach.

"Well I would hope that the players were still listening to Rangnick," he explained.

"When you get to that situation where you are not doing it for the manager then there is only one way (you are going).

"There is an air of uncertainty because they do not know whether he is going to be the manager or not because you would imagine that someone else is coming in.

"So you could imagine that upsetting the players somewhat.

"If you compare them to Manchester City, the attitude of the United players is totally different."

Manchester United will return to action on Tuesday night when they face Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
