David Moyes urged to fit both Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca in West Ham starting line-up

David Moyes will have to play Michail Antonio in another position once summer signing Gianluca Scamacca starts in the Premier League.

That's the verdict of former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, who has offered his verdict on West Ham's troubles in front of goal in the early stages of the season.

West Ham signed Italian forward Scamacca for £35million in the transfer window but he has yet to find the back of the net in England's top-flight in five appearances. Four of those have come off the bench, with Moyes opting for Antonio to lead the line for the Hammers but the team have struggled for goals and have only scored three in seven league games.

The former Sassuolo attacker has found the back of the net three times in four UEFA Europa Conference League ties this season and Moyes said after Scamacca's first West Ham goal that he will be given time to adapt to his new surroundings in England's top-flight.

And former Arsenal forward Campbell has suggested that Moyes will feature the Italian when he deems fit, but it will likely mean Antonio is deployed elsewhere.

Campbell told Football Insider: “Am I surprised? No, I’m not surprised at all. Michail Antonio has been a handful in the Premier League for the last three or four years. There was always talk of Michail Antonio needing somebody to come in when he’s either gone off the boil or he needs to play another position.

“We’re talking seven games in, after another three games, that’s when the league will start to settle down. There will be games where I’m sure [Gianluca] Scamacca will probably start with Michail Antonio maybe playing another position.

“Until that moment I think it’s probably a case of getting Scamacca used to the West Ham way and what David Moyes wants. He scored a good goal in Europe, he’ll get his European games obviously, to keep him match-fit. I’m sure when David Moyes feels it’s right, he’ll get a start in the Premier League.”

Scamacca is currently on international duty with Italy and could be in action on Friday night when his nation host Declan Rice's England at the San Siro.
