David Moyes tips West Ham star Jarrod Bowen for England recall: ‘He’s as close as ever’

David Moyes believes Jarrod Bowen is on the brink of an England recall after continuing his superb start to the season in West Ham’s victory over Sheffield United on Saturday.

His opener in the 2-0 win took his tally to five goals in just seven Premier League matches so far this term, the winger picking up where he left off having finished last season with the Hammers’ famous Europa Conference League winner in Prague.

Bowen has not played for England since being called up for the first time in May and June of last year but Moyes believes his form this term is becoming impossible to ignore.

“I would say Jarrod is as close now as he has ever been,” said Moyes, with England boss Gareth Southgate due to name his squad for the Euro 2024 qualifier with Italy and friendly against Australia on Thursday afternoon.

“He’s in really good form, quick, sharp and looks like he can do a lot of things.

“I’m not going to pick the England team but to play for England you have to be able to score in big games. Jarrod’s doing great for us.”
