David Moyes has paid tribute to his West Ham United paymasters after a crucial 2-0 win over Everton. Pundits and supporters billed the London Stadium clash as “El Sackico” pre-match due to the two clubs’ precarious league positions.
Victory for West Ham lifted them out of the relegation zone by a point but plunged more misery on Frank Lampard. The rookie manager has lost eight of his last nine games as Toffees boss, with their last win against Crystal Palace on October 22.
Bookmakers now make the Chelsea legend odds-on to become the next Premier League manager to lose his job. For Moyes, the vital three points grant him a brief grace period ahead of a mammoth trip to St James’ Park next week.

Newcastle United are yet to face West Ham this season, with the reverse fixture postponed to Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in September. Expectation levels have risen on Tyneside in recent months and nothing but a home win will be regarded as a positive result.
Ahead of the Newcastle trip, Moyes admitted to feeling relieved at ending a seven-game run without a league win. The 59-year-old also thanks Hammers chiefs for backing him in the transfer market.
“If you are indicating it (the win) is a relief to me, I think it’s a relief to the whole club,” Moyes said post-match. “We all want to win. The club itself and everybody in the club. It was a big result for everyone.
“I have to say, the players earned it. They recognise the situation they are in and we are working to get the club away from where we are. The biggest strength I’ve had is I’ve had a board behind me who have been really supportive, have backed me and made it a lot easier.
“The money involved in being a Premier League club is such a big thing, it really is, for all the clubs. All I will say is that I’ve had brilliant support from the board the whole time and I’ve got to say, they’ve really helped. Even buying Danny Ings yesterday shows you they want to help and do everything they possibly can.”
