David Moyes has dismissed speculation that he is close to losing his job as West Ham boss.
The Hammers sit 16th in the table and just a point off the relegation zone after a run of four straight defeats, as the pressure builds on Moyes after a really poor start to the season.
Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca were among those to arrive in the summer as the club spent big, looking to build on the club’s success domestically and in Europe in recent seasons.
That has not happened though, and there have been suggestions that Moyes’ job could be on the line ahead of Premier League matches against Brentford and Leeds. The 59-year-old addressed that in his pre-match press conference.
“Not at all, I’ve got great support from David Sullivan,” Moyes responded when asked if he felt under immediate pressure. “At the moment I’d say your sources are not correct.
“I’m not daft. You’re always under pressure as a football manager. There’s maybe one or not [who are not] but most of the managers, if you lose a few games you’re always going to be under a bit of pressure.”
He added: “You’ve got to come in and try and raise expectations wherever you go. I think we’ve done that.
“We’ve had some really, really good seasons in the last two years. We’re just disappointed we’ve not done as well at the moment, but we plan to do a lot better and we’re working towards that.”
Moyes also confirmed that the Hammers are not looking to be particularly active in the January transfer window, having recruited heavily during a busy summer.
The West Ham boss was also keen to make it clear that his captain would be going nowhere in the weeks ahead, despite interest from Chelsea.
“There will be no chance Declan Rice leaves in this window,” Moyes said.
