David Moyes hails West Ham resilience after Tottenham thwarted again

David Moyes praised his West Ham team’s resilience as they bounced back from Saturday’s late defeat at Newcastle to earn a 1-1 draw against Tottenham.

Moyes had been frustrated at the lack of resolve on show as his team blew a 3-1 lead by conceding three times in the final 13 minutes at St James’s Park.

Having conceded inside five minutes at home to Spurs on Tuesday, the Scot may have feared something similar but instead saw his side fight back through Kurt Zouma’s header.

“I think it probably was [a fair result] in the end,” Moyes said. “I thought we did a lot of good things again, showed much more resilience defensively tonight than we had certainly at the weekend.

“We were much more aggressive, much more resilient defensively. We had to be, against a really good team.

“Overall, if you’re giving me four points off Spurs before the season started, I’d have shook your hand and walked away and said ‘thanks very much’.”

Despite being on the wrong end of a dramatic comeback at Newcastle last weekend, the Hammers have now picked up 15 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season.

“I would hope all my teams would have that mentality throughout my career,” Moyes added. "I’ve tried to instil that ruggedness, fighting spirit.

"I think the boys showed lots of that and I think they wanted to try and show it. Sometimes you can show it and it doesn’t work.

"You’d have thought after four minutes ‘what’s going on here?’ They score a goal, not dissimilar to the weekend.”
