West Ham United boss David Moyes has heaped praise on teenage duo Ollie Scarles and Divin Mubama after making their debuts against FCSB.
In a heavily changed West Ham squad in Bucharest, Scarles (16) and Mubama (18) both made their full debuts from the start in the 3-0 win over their Romanian opponents. Scarles impressed throughout and played a hand in Pablo Fornals’ second goal of the night, while Mubama’s header off a Vladimir Coufal cross deflected off Joyskin Dawa to make it 2-0 minutes earlier.
Speaking on the full debutants, Moyes was full of praise for them both, especially Scarles, who became the sixth youngest debutant in the club’s history.

“The left wing-back Ollie Scarles did really, really well tonight,” Moyes told football.london . “I thought his deliveries for the balls in the box and his general all-round play for a 16-year-old was very good.
“We’re really pleased for him and I thought Divin [Mabuma] missed a great chance made by Ollie [Scarles] in the first. You could see how much it meant for him to score a goal and what it was and I know it was ruled as an own goal. He is a young centre forward desperate to score goals and it is a great thing to be.”
For Scarles, it has been an impressive few months, having made his debut for the under-21s earlier this season and featuring as an unused substitute in both wins over Anderlecht last month. Moyes admits that Scarles has only recently come on his radar in recent months, but likes what he sees so far.
“He’s young, he’s only really come on the scene in the last few months so he’s one of the young ones,” added Moyes. “We knew about him but you never think they are going to come on but we’ve been pleased.
“We think he’s stylish on the ball, he’s composed but he’s got a lot of growing to do and he has a 16 year old body at the moment.”
