David Moyes bemoans conceding ‘really poor goals’ as West Ham suffer third straight defeat

David Moyes was left frustrated by key moments as West Ham’s terrible start to the season continued.

The Hammers fell to a 2-0 defeat at home against Brighton, leaving them with no points after three matches of the campaign. They are yet to score a single goal.

Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring in the first-half from the penalty spot and though West Ham improved after the break, Pascal Gross doubled the lead midway through the second period to seal victory for the Seagulls.

Moyes was more upset with the result than the performance, with the Hammers left to rue conceding that second goal just as they were pushing for an equaliser.

“I’m disappointed because we didn’t win,” Moyes said. “We did OK but we gave away a couple of really poor goals.

“The penalty was the turning point, we started OK and contained them a little bit but we lacked that bit of quality and we didn’t keep the ball when we won it. We hadn’t done badly up until then.

“The same situation happened in the second half as well. We got ourselves back in the game and looked threatening but the second goal was a killer and we were punished.

“Brighton are a good team. I did think we had done better in some parts today against them that we had in the past but it doesn’t show in the result.”
