West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta helped Brazil to kick-off their 2022 World Cup campaign on Thursday night with a 2-0 win over Serbia in Group G.
Two goals in the second half from Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison, including a stunning acrobatic effort, sealed an opening game victory for the five-time World Cup winners to put them top of their group.
Paqueta, who could eventually become the Hammers’ recorded signing if potential future add-ons are triggered, started the contest and played for 75 minutes before being replaced by Manchester United midfielder Fred for the final part of the game shortly after Richarlison’s second goal.
