There are questions about running back David Montgomery’s future with the Bears heading into the 2023 offseason.
Montgomery is set to become a free agent in March, where he’ll have the option to explore a number of options across the league. But he could also wind up back in Chicago, where he’s been a key part of this offense since he was drafted in 2019.
As Montgomery cleaned out his locker Monday at Halas Hall, he was peppered with questions about his future.
“I want to play football,” he said.
With the Bears?
“I just want to play football. I would love to be here.”
While Montgomery said he wants to stay with the Bears, he also understands that the future is uncertain at this point.
Before Sunday’s finale against the Minnesota Vikings, Montgomery shared a post on Instagram that read, “LAST RIDE 32 !!!!” He was also spotted taking photos at Soldier Field following the game.
On Monday, Montgomery crashed Justin Fields’ interview with reporters to give his QB1 a hug before departing for the offseason. It certainly seems like the actions of a man preparing to say goodbye to Chicago.
“I love playing here,” Montgomery said. “I feel like I’ve done everything I can and everything I could. We’re just gonna see what’s next, but I appreciate all the Bears fans and everyone who’s supported me and hopefully I’m still here. It’s definitely emotional.”
