David Marshall in Hibs rally cry after Dundee United defeat as he targets return to winning ways

Hibs skipper David Marshall admits defeat to Dundee United was disappointing but says the capital club have come a long way in the last month.

The Easter Road side failed to make it five wins on the bounce in the Premiership as they lost out by a single goal at Tannadice. Aziz Behich's early strike proved to be the difference in what was a frantic encounter under the lights between the two sides.

Former Celtic and Scotland keeper Marshall admits the Hibees performed well for 99 per cent of the encounter and they need to make sure they keep performance levels high with a trip to Parkhead next and in their bid to maintain third spot. He told Hibs' official website: "We are all disappointed with the result, we came here off the back of four wins – even a draw tonight would’ve been a good result.

"Ultimately, the performance was good for 99% of the game so we can’t be too despondent, but at the same time we have got Celtic next and some more big games coming up so we need sure we keep the performances levels high to make sure we stay in third spot."

He added: "Goals change games and we switched off for the first goal. I thought we did reasonably well in the first half but in the second-half, we turned the screw.

"We have been good in the latter stages of games and we knew that we could score late equalisers and winners, so we had that confidence but ultimately it just turned out to be one of those nights that got away from us.

"You could argue that was one of the better performances over the last four weeks.

"We have come a long way in the last month, so we cannot let our standards drop. We need to make sure we get better again and get back to winning ways."
