David Johnson sends message after Nottingham Forest transfer completed

Former Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson has sent a message to Tyrese Fornah after the Reds midfielder completed a loan move to Shrewsbury Town.

Forest academy graduate Fornah has joined the League One side for the remainder of the season in a bid to get more game time under his belt.

The 22-year-old had a previous loan spell in League One last season when he featured 44 times for Plymouth.

Fornah has made three first-team appearances for Forest this term, two of those coming in the Carabao Cup.

His only Championship run-out was in the 2-1 home defeat to Blackburn Rovers while Chris Hughton was still in charge, although he was on the bench for the recent clash with Huddersfield Town.

When he put pen to paper on a new deal last month, head coach Steve Cooper admitted a loan switch was a possibility for Fornah when the transfer window opened, and that has now come to pass.

Shrewsbury boss and former Forest manager Steve Cotterill said: "We're very happy to have Ty, he's a player we had our eye on last summer when Chris Hughton was in charge of Forest but that one couldn't materialise at the time.

“We revisited it in this window because we do need another midfielder in there so we're pleased to have Tyrese in the building. He's a very good lad, nice lad, and I'm sure he'll fit in.

"It's a position we've been light in so far this season but to be fair to the boys who are already there, we've been quite strong in midfield so far and Tyrese will add that little bit more in there should we fall short through suspensions or injuries.

"He'll bring his defensive qualities more than anything else. He sits and passes it, and that allows us to make some movements in the squad and we're really happy to have him."

The move did not go unnoticed by Johnson, the father of in-demand Forest forward Brennan Johnson.

Johnson senior took to Twitter to say: "Congratulations Tyrese Fornah. Go smash it mate!"
