David de Gea sends message to Manchester United critics after winning Premier League Golden Glove

David de Gea said he is proud of his performances for Manchester United this season after winning the Premier League's Golden Glove award.

Although De Gea has endured a difficult few weeks following mistakes against Sevilla and West Ham, which has seen intense scrutiny around his role as the No.1 goalkeeper, he's still managed to win the Golden Glove award.

The award is presented to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in a Premier League season and De Gea kept his 17th clean sheet of the campaign in the win against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, which ensured the prize.

Liverpool's Allison has recorded 14 clean sheets and Newcastle's Nick Pope has 13, which means De Gea comfortably won the award.

The 32-year-old spoke after the Bournemouth victory to MUTV about his Golden Glove win and he reflected on his season.

"It means myself and the team did really well," De Gea said when asked what the award meant. "Especially in the defensive side, we have been very solid the whole season and I think we played really good the whole season.

"I've helped the team as much as I can, keeping some good clean sheets and you know when you keep clean sheets, we are closer to winning games and today, we keep another one, a big one and a massive three points.

"We are closer to finishing in the top four and that's very good for us. I think it's been a great season for me, some very good teams in the league, some very good goalkeepers and it's great. I try always my best to help the team.

"I'll put it in a proper place, with the other awards that I have and it's great, to be honest, to win another golden glove."

De Gea is out of contract next month but he's expected to sign a new deal imminently.
