David de Gea reveals how Manchester United dressing room reacted after Newcastle draw

Manchester United's players felt that Sunday's draw with Newcastle was a missed opportunity to pick up another three points, according to David de Gea.

United's three-match winning streak came to a frustrating end at Old Trafford as disallowed goals, waved-away penalty appeals and a couple of stunning misses ensured a goalless stalemate with the visiting Magpies. The draw means Erik ten Hag's side have now slipped three points behind Chelsea who remain in the final Champions League spot.

De Gea, who was making his 500th United appearance, admitted after the game that the result was disappointing, though he was pleased with a clean sheet.

"I think we miss another opportunity to win the three points," he told MUTV when asked what the mood was like in the dressing room. "I think we fight until the end, to be honest. We had a couple of massive chances at the end but that is football, sometimes you miss your chances and at least we keep a clean sheet.

"I think that's really important because I think Newcastle is a great team, they're doing very well over the season, so yeah, let's keep doing well, recovering well, because on Wednesday we have a big game again."

Newcastle had a great chance to take the lead in the opening 45 minutes as Joelinton hit the bar with a header and then struck the post when the ball bounced back to him. It was a passage of play that De Gea thought was bound to lead to a goal.

"Yeah, that was crazy," he added. "As soon as I saw the first hit the bar and the ball coming again to him again I say it must be a goal then he hits the post.

"As I say, this is football, sometimes the ball wants to come in sometimes not. I think we showed a bit more than them, I think we create more, bigger chances than them and the team gave totally everything today."
