In 2017 he became a minister under Jacinda Ardern’s government, holding the health and associate finance portfolios.
He was demoted from health during the thick of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, after controversy over breaking lockdown rules when he went mountain-biking and took his family to the beach, against Government rules.
After a period out in the cold Clark returned to Cabinet after the 2020 election, where he now holds the portfolios of commerce and consumer affairs, digital economy, and state-owned enterprises.
Clark has most recently been the face of the Government’s response to the supermarket duopoly and a market study into building supply materials.
