David Beckham hilariously forgot he had scored one of the best goals in Premier League history when in discussion with Gary Neville.
The Manchester United legend scored some incredible goals during his career, but arguably his best came when he was first breaking into the Red Devils team back in the late 1990s. Beckham famously scored from inside his own half away at Wimbledon after noticing the opposing keeper was off his line.
But despite the goal making him a household name at the time, he clearly doesn't remember it with the same fondness as many United fans still do.
Appearing on The Overlap, Beckham was asked by Neville about his favourite goal he scored during his career, and had no hesitation. He instantly replied: "Greece. The goal against Greece at Old Trafford."
Few could begrudge Beckham for picking that particular strike, considering it sent England to the World Cup finals in dramatic style in their final qualifying game.
The Three Lions had struggled until that point, and went into their final qualifying match needing a draw to make it to Japan and South Korea. They were losing 2-1 in the 93rd minute when Beckham curled a 25-yard free kick into the top corner in style.
Neville was left perplexed by Beckham's immediate answer and seemed shocked he had forgotten the goal against Wimbledon. He quickly replied: "Not the halfway line one, no?"
At that point the pair burst into laughter as Beckham joked: "Actually I forgot about that one! Yeah, that one. We'll say the halfway line one." Neville then replied: "The halfway line goal put you on the map though, didn't it?" To which Beckham agreed.
He was much more emotional speaking about the goal back in 2002, when he explained: "It changed my life. The ball seemed to be in the air for hours and it all went quiet. Then the ball went in and it just erupted. I was on cloud nine."
Soon after his heroic effort againt Wimbledon, Beckham broke into the starting line-up for good and never looked back. Beckham soon went on to become a first-team regular at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson, and inherited the number seven shirt from Eric Cantona.
The midfielder would go on to become a legendary figure at United, playing 394 times for the club and collecting a host of trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 1999.
Though he left in 2003 after falling out with Ferguson, he is still adored by fans, and it seems he still holds a strong affection for the club.
He went on to discuss his admiration for Sir Bobby Charlton, having gone through the United and England icon's soccer school during his childhood. Beckham also revealed to Neville that his middle name - Robert - was chosen after United great Sir Bobby Charlton.
Beckham explained that Charlton, who was formerly United's all-time record goalscorer, is the one player from the past he wished he played with. "He was my Dad's hero. That's why my middle name is Robert. I'd love do have played with Sir Bobby."
