David Beckham hits back at Vogue Williams after podcast dig over £10m Qatar deal

David Beckham has snapped back at Vogue Williams after the model criticised the former England captain over his deal to be the face of Qatar's World Cup.

David, who is revered as a LGBTQ+ icon after modeling for gay lifestyle magazine Attitude in 2002, has come under severe criticism for his decision to accept a £10 million deal to become an ambassador for the Middle East country ahead of the World Cup.

Comedian Joe Lycett had publicly urged David, 47, to pull out of his multi-million pound sponsorship deal last month over the treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals in the country.

Homosexuality is still illegal in Qatar and can be punished with up to seven years in prison.

Vogue, 37, aired her opinion of the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder during an episode of My Therapist Ghosted Me with Joanne McNally. The conversation between the two close friends turned to Beckham's deal and Vogue asked him to do the right thing with the money.

She said: "He could save a little bit of face, like come on, you've got €110 million, donate at least 10 of that to charities because you know you're a s******g."

However, friends of Inter Miami owner have clapped back at the Irish model by accusing her of "epic hypocrisy" after she shared photos on Instagram with her husband Spencer Matthews during a holiday in January to the Malvides, where it is illegal to be gay and people can be imprisoned for six months.

Sources close to David told the Daily Mail : "This is epic hypocrisy. If someone wants to take a genuine stand against David, then that's one thing, but to call him names when she is happy to visit a country with the same laws for a sunshine holiday all feels a bit rich.

"Vogue says she didn't go to Qatar because her sister is gay yet she posts endless glowing pics of her amazing holidays in the Maldives."

Mum-of-four Vogue revealed in the same podcast episode that she was invited to Qatar but declined because her sister is gay.

She added: "You know what? I got asked to go to Qatar. They invited me over to the World Cup and to do all this influencing stuff and [I was like] 'I'll take my sister, my lesbian sister. How would you feel about that?' They invited me, and I said no there's no way I would go over there. Not the way it is. Very disappointed."
