David Beckham eats bugs during Mexico trip saying it's 'good to be back'

David Beckham is currently enjoying a break in Mexico as the self-confessed foodie samples local cuisines, including bugs.

The former England captain documented his trip on social media, and shared a selfie on his balcony overlooking a busy street, writing: "So good to be back in Mexico WOW I love this city."

David, 47, joined his wife Victoria, 48, and children Cruz, 17, and Harper, 11, at family friend Marc Anthony's wedding over the weekend. The sportsman was one of the best men, while Victoria designed the bridesmaid's dresses for the lavish nuptials.

Gushing over the food in Mexico, David shared snaps of a chef making him some local delights, captioning the food post: "Fresh," alongside a love heart made up from the Mexican flag. Showing off the local treats, the sportsman shared snaps of guacamole, rice pudding and the unusual bowl of bugs.

The dead bugs - commonly added to sauces and cocktails - appeared to be blended and served alongside the collection of traditional dishes. After living all over the world due to his career as a footballer, David has spoken of his love for trying new dishes - although he didn't add what his thoughts on the creepy crawlies this time round were.

Speaking on the River Café Table 4 podcast, David revealed that he’s still got a real soft spot for crisps and toasties.

"After talking about all of this great food and all of these great restaurants I go to, my comfort food is a packet of salt and vinegar Discos,” he said. “And maybe a toastie made in the Brevile toaster with baked beans.

“I get quite emotional about food and wine. When I'm eating something great, I want everyone to try it.”

He added to the podcast: “Unfortunately, I'm married to someone who has eaten the same thing for the last 25 years. Since I've met Victoria, she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables. She'll very rarely deviate away from there.”

David's love for food has certainly inspired someone in his family, as eldest son Brooklyn Beckham, 23, launched his own YouTube cooking series Cookin' With Brooklyn. The aspiring chef was recently slammed for being 'out of touch' as he used lavish ingredient truffle to whip up a tagliatelle in his latest cookery tutorial.
