David Beckham insists he wants the "best players" at Inter Miami, but is more concerned about winning than attracting star names.
Lionel Messi is among those linked with a move to the Florida-based outfit, who are a recent addition to the MLS.
The Argentine, who moved to PSG in the summer, has previously spoken about his plans to see out his career in America.
That would open the door for Inter Miami to make a move as Beckham looks to further raise the team's profile.
However the former Manchester United man wants to see his MLS side win and believes the fans are on the same page.
He told the Miami Herald : "I've always said I want the best players in our club and playing in our shirt because there's a certain expectation.
Will Lionel Messi end up moving to the MLS? Have your say in the comments!
"Unfortunately, sometimes it can be a bad thing. But most of the time it's a good thing. When I first started this project, people were saying 'This guy is coming, that guy is coming, [Cristiano] Ronaldo is coming, Messi's coming.'
"At the end of the day, we need to win, whether it's with the young kids or stars.
"Our fans will be happy if we have stars on the team, but they'll be even happier if they're seeing young players coming through our academy and lifting the MLS Cup."
Inter Miami have added the likes Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi since their inception.
Phil Neville has also come in to the dugout having previously led the England Women's team.
He is formerly teammates with Beckham and Manchester United whilst the pair are both co-owners at Salford City.
Neville has endured mixed results since his appointment with his side missing out on the play-offs, however the team's want for stability and the unseen work has given Beckham confidence going forward.
"His professionalism, hard work, his commitment, for me, was one of the biggest reasons in bringing him into this club," he claimed.
"Stability is important and of course, we need to be successful on the field.
'When you look at the great clubs around the world - Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool - the work that Jurgen Klopp has done within Liverpool behind the scenes is one of the reasons why they're so successful on the field.
"And, that's why I think the work that Phil has done has been incredible. But talking about us as friends, we'll always be friends, no matter what happens."
