Dave Grohl welcomes daughter on Glastonbury stage as Churnups identity revealed

The mystery is over - the secret Glastonury band The Churnups has been revealed as none other than legendary rock band the Foo Fighters. Lead singer Dave Grohl took to the stage to screams from an adoring audience, joking that all of them "knew it was us".

The Churnups had been shrouded in secrecy since it was first revealed they were not a real band. Music-lovers had numerous theories about the identity of the band but the Foo Fighters were by far the most popular theory. The mystery was uncovered at 6.15pm on Friday (June 23) when the Foo Fighters began their set.

Dave Grohl was quick to joke with fans, saying they were “not good at secrets”. "You guys knew it was us this whole time, you knew it,” he said.

“We’re not good at secrets. Well, it’s nice to see your faces again, it’s been a long time. This is another beautiful day, another beautiful audience.”

Launching into My Hero, Grohl asked fans to sing along, prompting the thousands-strong crowd to belt out the chorus. “We only have one hour so we gotta make sure we fit in all the songs we can,” a sweating and red-faced Grohl told the crowds.

He welcomed his daughter, Violet Maye on stage to sing alongside her dad as the pair launched into a track from the band's newest album. Describing her as his 'favourite singer in the world', he said: "This is a song we wrote for my mother, Violet’s grandmother, it’s called Show Me How and it goes like this."

He also made special mention to drummer Josh Freese, who he said was “the man who helped us to be here today”, following the death of Taylor Hawkins last year.
